REDI for parents

REDI – for parents is a resource package designed to assist schools in the engagement of parents and carers in school based strategies that will foster the health and wellbeing of children and young people, particularly in relation to drug related issues. It has been developed in recognition of the growing evidence base for the importance of families to student outcomes in terms of academic success, health and wellbeing. It acknowledges and provides some strategies to build on the good work schools are doing in this area.
REDI – for parents is in two parts with accompanying guides, Strengthening Family-School Partnerships and Building Conversations. REDI – for parents also includes a video/DVD and information for patents.

Strengthening Family-School Partnerships, A guide, is designed to provide schools and their communities with information and planning tools to assist in reviewing and strengthening partnerships between schools, families and communities.
This guide:

  • is designed for the school leadership team
  • builds on existing REDI resources
  • is designed as a flexible toolkit which complements other resources.

It includes information, guidelines and tools to assist with identifying and determining how partnerships can be strengthened to meet the needs of all students, including those at risk. It is suitable for use in primary, middle and secondary schools settings.

It supports a parent event initiative from a range of perspectives – from adult to student centred – and encourages schools to develop such initiatives according to their particular context and needs.

Building Conversations includes:

  1. a facilitators manual
  2. video segments
    • professional development
    • trigger activities for the Transitional Years (School Years 5-7) and the Emerging Years (Years 8-10)
  3. a Parent Pack with
    • information sheets
    • website for parents, containing information, quizzes and links to further resources.

The Guides can be accessed via the Practical Ideas section of the Reading Room, found in the left hand side column of this website. The video segments are provided on both VHS and DVD.
